ST. REGIS CAP CANA RESORT

Amulets: Reimagined // Segment of Amulets: Reimagined Edición de 200 esculturas

Amulets: Reimagined brings the spirit of Taíno culture to life through sculptural installations and wall art, designed exclusively for a hotel’s diverse spaces. Drawing inspiration from the indigenous Taíno people of the Dominican Republic, the project pays homage to their rich lifestyle, artistic expressions, and symbolic traditions.

Through a meticulous study of Taíno culture, Franco embarks on a creative journey of deconstruction and abstraction, reinterpreting their decorative motifs through her contemporary lens. The resulting pieces are not mere replicas but intricate interpretations,

infused with the artist’s perspective and directly resonating with the essence of Taíno heritage.

This project includes a series of striking installations, designed for both interior and exterior common areas, as well as wall sculptures for private spaces, transforming every corner into a dialogue between past and present. Versatile in its display, this sculpture series can be seen mounted directly onto the wall or encased in a wooden frame with glass.

Amulets: Reimagined draws its essence from the artistry of Taíno amulets, weaving their profound symbolism into a contemporary art piece. Inspired by the zoomorphic and anthropomorphic motifs commonly used by the Taíno people to attract good luck, the designs have been thoughtfully abstracted and deconstructed to respect and honor their cultural significance.

Totems To Remember

Designed and sculpted from high-fired ceramics, featuring a stainless steel base and ceramic piping. Each piece is finished with a mason stain, oxide wash, or glaze for a refined and  polished appearance. This sculptural installation takes inspiration from the intricate carving style and iconic vessels of the Taíno, reimagining their artistry in the form of totems.

Throughout history, totems have embodied the bond and unity within tribes, symbolizing ancestral ties and collective memory. With Totems To Remember, the Taíno’s rich iconographic language comes alive through the use of the emblematic Taíno carving style, showcasing the artistry and heritage behind. Much effort and attention was placed in the making and decorating of their vessels, being one of the most varied and ample remains showing their impressive carving skills. Among these is the rare Mammiform vessel, a treasure unique to this island, whose essence has been woven into the sculptures.
